A native of Cincinnati, Dr. MaryEvan always wanted to be a doctor.
After becoming interested in orthodontics at a young age, she worked as a chairside technician at Thacker Orthodontics during the summer while in high school in college. She joined the team full-time as an orthodontist in 2017.
MaryEvan Hellebusch, DMD, MS
As an orthodontist, Dr. MaryEvan loves creating positive change in her patients’ lives by giving them a beautiful, healthier smile.
She knows that orthodontic treatment can be challenging, whether you’re a tween, teen, or adult. Knowing that each patient feels welcomed, understood, and part of a team is important to Dr. MaryEvan.
She’s excited to come to work each day knowing she’ll be working with her patients towards the end goal of a great smile.
Education & Experience
After graduating from Saint Ursula Academy in 2005, Dr. MaryEvan attended Vanderbilt University to earn her undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences degree in a minor in Medicine, Health, and Society.
Dr. MaryEvan then attended the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude and third in her class. While a student there, she was elected to membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Honor Dental Society for her exceptional academic performance.
During dental school, Dr. MaryEvan received many awards, including:
- American Academy of Craniofacial Pain Outstanding Senior Award
- American Dental Society of Anesthesiology Horace Wells Senior Student Award
- Professor Leonard C. Waite Outstanding Performance Award: Pharmacology and Dental Therapeutics
- Top 10% in Basic Sciences: Microbiology, Pharmacology
- Membership to The Delphi Society for outstanding academic performance and professional interest in biodental sciences.
In 2014, Dr. Mary Evan completed a one-year Craniofacial Biology program at the University of Kentucky Department of Orthodontics.
She and Dr. Jim Thacker worked together researching the clinical significance of mandibular dental arch expansion using an E-Arch appliance in the mixed dentition.
Dr. MaryEvan completed her three-year orthodontic residency training at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (where Dr. Jim Thacker also received his orthodontic training!)
She graduated with a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Orthodontics and a Masters of Science in Dentistry from Boston University.
Dr. MaryEvan is board certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Only 54% of orthodontists in the American Association of Orthodontics achieve this level of board certification.
Outside the Office
Outside of orthodontics, Dr. MaryEvan loves all things outdoors.
She, her husband, and their daughters enjoy exploring with their dogs, hiking, biking, waterskiing, and paddleboarding.
They spend lots of time at the lake in the summer and strap on snowboards and snowshoes in the winter.
In her free time, she also attends pilates, spinning, barre, and other fitness classes to keep her healthy and fit for sprinting around the office every day.
Dr. MaryEvan and her husband, Stuart, welcomed their second daughter, Frances Marie, to the world
this December (just a few days before Emma’s 3rd birthday!).
